Miomojo wins PETA Vegan Fashion Award for Apple Leather Handbag – vegconomist

Sustainable Italian fashion brand Miomojo was recognized by the animal rights group PETA for his apple leather handbag. Known as the Giorgia, the bag is made from waste from the local juice industry.

PETA Germany was named the best handbag of 2021 at the annual Vegan Fashion Awards. Previously, this award was won by big brands such as Giorgio Armani, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.

Giorgia is a “bucket bag” that can be turned into a backpack by adjusting the handles. The body is made entirely of vegan Appleskin leather, while the inner lining is made from recycled plastic bottles.

In addition to its apple leather handbag range, Miomojo also offers products made from other sustainable materials such as bamboo, hemp, cactus leather and recycled plastic waste such as abandoned “ghost” fishing nets.

The company isn’t the first to receive a PETA award for using sustainable vegan leather – in August, Mexican cactus leather manufacturer Desserto was recognized in the materials category at the PETA Vegan Homeware Awards in the UK. At the same event, the Canadian interior designer Gus * Modern received an award for its innovative apple leather designs.

“PETA, the largest animal rights organization in the world, got us with the Award that honors the labels, style icons and future-oriented designers who made big statements about animals in 2021, ”Miomojo said in a statement. “Exactly what Miomojo stands for: respect for animals, the planet and people.”
