It’s not often that engagement announcements stir feelings in our cold souls. Well, maybe you’re a little more sentimental, but it has to be said that a lot of clichés do the rounds when it comes to romance announcements — unless you’re fashion designer Harris Reed, who this morning wrote the most beautiful words for partner Eitan Senerman to announce their engagement.
reed – Fashion Designer, Creative Director for Nina Ricci, Champion of gender fluidity and Extremely Stylish Person – shared the news of a series of Instagram photos covering his beautifully tumultuous relationship with boyfriend Senerman, as well as the cutest look back on Senerman’s dating profile.
And yes, we must see the ring.
The ring is incredible, of course – but it’s Reed’s words that brought us to tears.
I’m at a loss for words for the first time in my life,” Reed begins. “I’ve grown up all my life watching straight couples share their engagements with the world and declare their love and support for one another by being life partners, rock-solid through the bad and the good. Being born into a world where two queer individuals were not allowed to marry (and of course it is still illegal in so many places), I never thought I would have this moment to announce to the world that two individuals who love others and that their love can be accepted, that there is light at the end of this tunnel.”
Reed goes on to call Senerman the “light of my life”. “I love you and this family of love and acceptance that we are building.”
Reed’s engagement caps an incredible year for the designer – the 26-year-old was recently announced as creative director for Nina Ricci but had already made a name for himself through his label Harris Reed – Beyonce and Harry Styles have worn his pieces, and he has famously designed Camille Charriere‘s sheer wedding dress in 2021, which subsequently went viral and spawned a new bridal trend.
Charriere, along with plenty of other prominent names from the fashion and celebrity set, flooded Reed’s comments with congratulations for the couple, with stars like Phoebe Bridgers, Bryan Boy and Lily Collins all celebrating the sweet love story.
