H & M’s edition by John Boyega shows sustainable style

“If there’s one thing in life I can believe in, it’s that we contain crowds,” says England-born actor John Boyega, opening an H&M promotional video not in his native English, but in his Yoruba language Ancestry.

Inspired by Boyega’s embrace of his many selves, often through outstanding acting, apparel maker H&M worked with the actor on Edition, a new collection that was released in late October. The new clothing line puts sustainability first and creates stylish threads from recycled, organic and innovative materials. Boyega uses this lineage, duality and fame as a platform to encourage positive development and considerate consumption.

“John Boyega is a courageous leader of a generation committed to change who believes there is a better way to deal with one another and the planet,” said Ross Lydon, Head of Menswear Design at H&M, in a press release. “H&M is proud to partner with John for Edition by John Boyega, a contemporary, more sustainable collection for men.”

Edition combines effortless workwear with floral prints and tie-dye patterns. In line with H & M’s commitment to bringing fashion into a greener future, the collection is made from sustainable materials such as recycled cotton from textile production waste and post-consumer waste, recycled nylons and polyesters, and sustainably sourced viscose fibers.

The key pieces include a conspicuously checked coat, some of which is made from high-quality Italian recycled wool and leaves an unforgettable impression. A timeless, striped shirt made of organic cotton has a wide cut, while a zip-off down jacket is made from the innovative Vegea material, which can be quickly transformed from jacket to vest.

Shirts and pants ensure a relaxed feel, ideal for the Christmas season. The green cardigan and yellow turtleneck from Edition create a spacious silhouette on cooler days. In keeping with the message, a new pink tie-dye sweatshirt and the T-shirt are each emblazoned with the message “A better present leads to a better future” next to a planet-earth graphic.

“I love to find clothes that represent who I am. Even if others don’t like them, I’ll still enjoy the way they feel, ”said Boyega in the edition’s announcement.

The Golden Globe winner represents the social development he wants to see in the world. In June 2020, for example, the actor picked up the microphone to give a heartfelt speech at a protest against Black Lives Matter in London. For Boyega, speaking the truth is a powerful tool for driving empathy and change.

“When someone boldly tells their truth, it breaks us out of our reality,” said Boyega. “It gives us a moment to put ourselves in other people’s shoes. We stop and really begin to empathize or at least understand. “
