Governor Newsom proclaims Labor Day 2022

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom today issued a proclamation declaring September 5, 2022 as Labor Day for the state of California.

The text of the proclamation and a copy are below:

On Labor Day, we honor the working people who fuel California’s prosperity and support the very fabric of our society.

Our state and nation owe a great debt of gratitude to the workers in a variety of critical jobs who have carried us through unprecedented times and are now fueling our remarkable recovery. We recognize and thank the men and women who work every day to meet the needs of Californians and move our state forward.

California is committed to protecting and supporting our diverse and vibrant workforce. During the pandemic, our state has acted quickly to protect workers at work and at home. Over the past year, California has taken historic measures to protect warehouse workers from unsafe production quotas, end decades-old, exploitative wage practices in the apparel industry, better protect domestic workers, and ensure workers with disabilities receive fair wages.

My government is working to expand access to good jobs and tackle income inequality. This year, my government released a plan to dramatically expand California’s apprenticeship programs to create more earning opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds while developing valuable skills and experience for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

California is committed to building an economy that works for working people. On this Labor Day and every day, we continue our work to expand access to good jobs, ensure safe and healthy jobs, and create new avenues for advancement. Together we can deliver on the promise of Labor Day to all hardworking Californians and their families.

SO ME, GAVIN NEWSOMGovernor of the State of California, hereby declare September 5, 2022 as Labor Day.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have laid my hand on it and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed to this 2ndnd September day 2022.
