Last year, Charlotte announced that “for the first time in film history” she had set up a daycare center to provide childcare for the industry.

The actress, who is the proud mother of her two children, six and three, co-founded WonderWorks nursery near Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire last year.

Despite Charlotte and her husband Tom Hardy having a multimillion-pound fortune that would allow them to hire a nanny, the mother-of-two has explained that the nursery is “vital” to the film industry.

Speaking to the Times, Charlotte said, “We’ve had so many people, especially women, who are in their mid-thirties who wanted to have kids but have gone, ‘Oh my god, I’m literally about to direct my first movie.’ Then they have to make a choice, and that is completely wrong.”

The press star continued, “The industry is opting for these long hours, 15-hour days. It is now time for the industry to take responsibility for its social impact.”

During the interview, the actress said she wasn’t forced to turn down jobs because she could afford to hire a nanny “because my partner works.”

But Charlotte said the daycare is important for those in the industry who don’t command high salaries, who work on short contracts and have to switch between studio work and filming.

Tom and Charlotte starred together in Peaky Blinders and met on the set of an adaptation of Wuthering Heights. They married in July 2014.
